Proper preparation of your roof before painting is crucial for a perfect finish.
We use high-pressure cleaning, typically between 3500-4000 psi, to remove dirt, moss, algae, lichen, and other debris that have accumulated on the roof tiles over the years. This thorough cleaning sterilises the roof surface, making it ready for sealing and painting.
For most roof restoration projects, we use a commercial cleaning machine called a “whirlaway.” However, if there is extreme buildup on your roof, we use a pressure cleaning wand to ensure all debris is effectively removed.
Before cleaning the roof surface, we replace any broken or damaged roof tiles to restore the roof's integrity.
Each roof has its own unique tile profile from its original construction. Over time, some tile profiles have been discontinued or are no longer manufactured, so we often source replacement tiles from second-hand roofing suppliers.
Ensuring that replacement tiles fit properly and are securely installed is crucial for maintaining a watertight seal during the roof restoration process.
Bedding and pointing are crucial for your roof’s ridge caps. Bedding aligns and holds the ridge caps in place, while pointing ensures a watertight seal.
Bedding is only needed if the ridge caps are broken or loose and need repositioning.
Repointing, however, is essential in all roof restorations to secure the tiles and prevent water leaks. We use flexible pointing in all our restorations because it expands and contracts, which cement mortar alone cannot do.
A weep hole is a small nail-sized hole in the top ridge pointing of a tiled roof, spaced every 30cm along the ridge. These holes let water escape, keeping the ridge pointing dry.
Removing solar panels before starting a roof restoration is unnecessary unless there are underlying roof issues that need repair. Removing them can increase the overall cost, as a licensed electrical contractor must handle the process.
If the solar panels stay on the roof, we will securely mask them to prevent any paint overspray. We also mask skylights for the same reason.
For a superior roof restoration finish, we apply one coat of primer to the entire tile roof. This primer penetrates deeply into the tiles, ensuring stronger adhesion for the roof membrane coating.
To complete the restoration, we apply two coats of a protective roof membrane, creating a long-lasting barrier for your roof.
